Great little poem found on the internet!!!
We valued your child, when no-one else would, Took them under our wing, coached as best as we could. Whilst you weren’t at training, we encouraged and praised, Help bring them out of their shells and their standard we raised. Now the season has gone, and you see they’ve got better, The time we spent learning, now they’re the team’s go getter. Developed, improved, and made to feel part of the team, We happily gave up our weekends for weather’s extreme. Suddenly, you think they’re too good for the others, The lengths we have gone too, now they won’t wear our colours. Dreams of grandeur beckon, yet they’re still just a child, Gone are the times when after games we shared smiles. Friendships are lost, and they move on to new pastures, When once we were heroes, now we’re the disasters. You forget the times, when we were the only ones there, The tears after games lost, but it was the coaches who care. Your bitterness and cheap digs left for us to see, But we’ve moved on too, this I can guarantee. You see when you left, and thought we’d stop without you. We thrived, and we grew, and we improved too. Whilst we are the reason, your child loved the game, You forgot that our reasons for football just weren’t the same. We wanted to be part of their journey, the reason they played, Whilst you wanted better, it was us that stayed. In years to come, when they’ve given up playing, You’ll see the players who ended up staying, Living and loving football forever, Still playing with their lifelong friends, boxing clever. We don’t judge you or worry, we just wanted the best, For your child and ours, and all the rest. We don’t do this for thanks, medals, or glory, We just wanted to be a small part of your child’s football story. #grassrootsfootball #grassrootsfootballuk
