When Bill Shankly said “Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.” I sometimes wonder whether he was talking about winning and losing or the actual impact that football has on everyone it touches.
For the U13’s today, after two heavy losses, rather than training we decided to do something a little different. Technically these guys know how to play football, they know what is required of them on a Sunday afternoon, but sometimes we just need to take a moment and think about why we play football.
Today we met up as a team and went for breakfast. It was great to see the team bonding and socialising and hopefully reminding them that whatever the score is on Sunday there’s always another game next week, and you’re in it together as a team.
So is football a matter of life or death? No, it’s definitely more than that
